Music on the Moor

Boxmoor's own music event was on again this weekend. A fantastic time seemed to be had by all and there must have been around 300 people there. A totally free event, which featured a great mix of amateur, semi-pro and pro acts. These two were just a couple of my favourites, but a larger selection can be seen by clicking here

Spark Plug

Shot for a specific contest with the theme of 'Electric'. Although it didn't do so well in the contest, I was pleased with the end result.
If you're wondered how it was done - a friend had installed some mad device in his exhaust to make foot long flames shoot out of it. It's sparked by some electronic device attached to a spark plug. He removed it and we clamped it so it kept still, then hit the ignition which makes it spark repeatedly.

Braunston Church

Shot at around 9.30pm in Braunston, Northamptonshire. There was quite a few to choose from, including lighter ones (with longer exposure) which showed the detail of the foreground. However, this one just looked more striking.

Luke

I shot a number of shots for a client a few weeks ago, but this was really the pick of the bunch (shown with his kind permission). Luke was fantastic to work with, following any instructions and even offering ideas of his own.
Really pleased with this one.

Reflections

I really wanted to enter a contest on Worth with a theme of Reflections, but struggled for a few days to come up with any decent concept. In the end, I literally stepped over it - I remembered I had a mirror in the shed and went to take a look and see what sort of condition it was in. As I brought it out to polish it, I caught sight of the snail by the door and knew he was perfect for the shot.
Hoped to have him appear as if almost floating in the reflected sky.

Competition win !

I spotted a competition a few weeks ago on the PDSA website calling for shots of owners and their pets. I entered this one from November '05 and thought nothing of it.
Letter came through this morning informing of the win ! Prize is yet to be confirmed but it's a Canon digital camera of some description - probably at the cheaper end, but I'm certainly not complaining !

One question springs to mind though - why do photo competitions so often give cameras as prizes to people who obviously already have one ?

Shot for a Contest at www.worth1000.com with a theme of 'Attack of the Clones'. Dave kindly agreed to model for me, while I shot him standing both sides. It was backlit with a large halogen lamp sat on the ground behind.

(it came in 1st place !)

Braunston

Following a thoroughly enjoyable afternoon at Mum & Dad's, I took a walk up the hill to shoot the sunset. Cliche I know, but this tree caught my eye and decided to try to capture the sun disappearing through the branches.

Waterworks

We had to have our water main replaced this weekend, and while one of the workers was straightening the edges of the holes prior to concreting the dust was pouring out and the light behind was casting interesting shadows.
